New Creations

It has been quite a while since I have posted an update.  I just finished a glazed firing for several customer's handprints.  The glazes all came out spectacular!  Please check out the new pictures here, or click on the Ceramic Creations tab.

Discovered Glazes

Hooray!!  I found my long lost rubbermaid container of glazes, that have been kicking around with me for the past 7 years.  I had given up finding them and then we had a garage sale last week and wah-la I find them in the basement.  This is fantastic news because I now have more color options to offer.  I will list the colors and get samples made up soon . . .

I also added a picture of a family style plaque under my Ceramic Creations tab (above).  It is not fired yet but it was so much fun to create.  I have added a family name plate that will attach to the handprints plaque and I carved circles for each family member's photo to be inserted after firing.  Definitely a fun way to preserve a little family history.

Alphabet Stamps

Who would have thought that finding alphabet stamps made for clay were such a rare/hard to find commodity?

I searched high and low to find any clay compatible non-rubber, larger than 1/4 inch, stamps. After days of fruitless searches my luck changed and I finally found success when I searched for stone/concrete stamps made for customizing stepping stones.  I was able to get a Victorian and a Traditional style set.  Please see the sample plaques on my Ceramic Creations tab (above).  These stamps are a dream to work with and look fantastic in clay!

If you decide to book an impressions session with me, you can choose which font better fits your style for your creation.

Glaze firing

I fired my first load of glazed pieces this past Friday and everything turned out great!  I had to stop myself from going to open the kiln at 4am (as it was cool enough by then) and somehow found the willpower to wait until 6:30am.  It is always exciting to see how things turn out.

I have added my available colors samples in the Ceramic Creations tab (above), under the handprint plates.  I was very surprised at some of the colors so I will be on the lookout to add a few more shades for variety's sake.

Bisque firing in Lil Mo

I fired my first kiln in about 8 years, last Saturday.  It was the most fantastic thrill, to load it up and turn it on.  The slight firing smell brought back so many memories.  I took it really slow and babied it so it took longer than usual (4 hours to reach 1875 degrees F).  Everything turned out lovely and now I can't wait to do a glaze firing.  That is when opening your kiln is right up there with the excitement kids feel on Christmas morning.  There can be all kinds of fabulous glazes just clamoring to be shown off!!

New clay and a plethora of glazes

My hubby took me to my newest, favorite store - The Ceramic Shop in Philly last week.  I splurged on 100 lbs of some fabulous white low-fire clay, quite a rainbow collection of Duncan glazes and some new kiln shelves.

Then as if that wasn't enough, last night, he bought and cut up a bunch of new boards that are the foundation for my customer's ceramic creations.  My little studio is ready to rock and roll now!

I am currently making sample color tiles of all my new glazes and will have them up as soon as they get fired.  Check back soon . . .

Little Ones - Footprints in Clay Studio

Welcome to Little Ones - Footprints in Clay, a home-based ceramic studio.

Every momma wants to capture the preciousness of her little ones, because we know they "grow up so quickly".  Due to the inspiration and encouragement of my good friends, I am venturing into preserving your little one's handprint(s) and/or footprint(s) into ceramic wall plaques, ornaments etc.

Your ceramic creation will be fired to just under 2000 degrees F.  You can leave the clay bare or have me glaze it with a protective coat of lead-free, non-toxic clear or colored glaze, which increases the durability of your work of art. My kilns are set up in my home-based studio, so let's make some memories; that with a little care can be passed down to future generations.

Please call Jen at 302-419-3644 or email me at footprintsinclay(at)zoho(dot)com to schedule a session at your convenience.

Makes a great baby shower gift for expectant mothers, and is sure to evoke oohs and aahs from grandmas, aunts; etc. . . .
